Last Friday, 8th August, we were entertained by the Kahurangi Theatre group. They showed us about the Maori heritage through songs and dance.
We celebrated Matariki in several ways during the last week of term. We made Matariki shortbread biscuits on Monday morning. They were delicious.
On Tuesday we prepared the vegetables for the hangi. Only four of us cut our fingers with the peeler! We watched the hangi being uncovered on Wednesday and then we ate the food for our lunch.
We talked about the Maori legends and customs around Matariki. They made and flew manu tukutuku - bird kites - to welcome the New Year. We made bird collages using tissue paper.

On Tuesday 27th May our Kapa Haka group combined with Drury School to show us a few of the items that they have been practising. It was quite loud but really great to watch.
Then on Wednesday 28th May we were lucky to have a visit from Northcross Intermediate. The group of children who came take dance/drama lessons during their lunch time. They were excellent and we thoroughly ejoyed the show.
